Local students graduate from Southern Regional College

Dromore and Dromara students were among those who celebrated success with family, friends and college staff at Southern Regional College’s annual graduation ceremony.

Jordanne Boal from Dromara received a Btec Level 4 HNc diploma in Health and Social Care while Shanice Patel from Dromore graduated with the UU Foundation Degree in Applied Medical Science.

More than 680 graduates received foundation degrees, higher level diplomas and professional qualifications from a range of courses delivered at the college’s five campuses.

Honours degrees delivered in conjunction with Ulster University and John Moore’s University Liverpool were also conferred in business studies, accounting and creative imaging.

SRC welcomed Kevin McEnoy from BT to present the BT Award for Excellence in Blended Learning.

The BT prize of an HP tablet was awarded to Dominic Burke who studied the HNC Diploma in Mechanical Engineering on the Portadown campus.

Student of the Year Awards were presented by chairman of the governing body Andrew Sanders to full-time and part-time higher education students.

Guest speaker at the graduation ceremony was Mrs Mary McCall, founder and managing director of one of Ireland’s fastest growing online consumer brands, TreatTicket.com. Mary inspired the students with her entrepreneurial spirit and ability to thrive in the competitive online market place.

Lorna Browne, who studied the HND in Health and Social Care, spoke on behalf of the Class of 2015 in praise of the lecturers.

She said: “When I graduate from Queen’s with my degree in Social Work, I will be thinking of you all…how you inspired and supported me and how you believed in me…for all of this.” Brian Doran, chief executive of SRC, paid tribute to the work of college staff for providing an excellent learning experience for graduates.

He told the students: “Your presence here today demonstrates the important role that the Southern Regional College plays in diversifying the higher education system.”
