Local residents join forces for fun day out

Many of the young people who enjoyed the trip to Carnfunnock Family Zone.

Brookfield and Edenderry estates in Banbridge have been participating in the Housing Executive’s Shared Communities Programme.

This participation resulted in the opportunity for young and old from both estates to take a trip which helped promote greater understanding and respect between the generations.

Miniature Railway, miniature golf, wowballs, bungee trampolines and bouncy castles filled the day with fun for all.

But there was a more serious element to the day out as the group aimed to contribute to building a more cohesive community for everyone involved.

It gave residents a chance to chat informally with one another which goes a long way to improving mutual understanding and fostering good relations between different generations and cultures.

Speaking after the trip Michelle Copeland, Chair of Brookfield Combined Community Association, said: “We were delighted with the response from the two estates to the outing.

“It was great to see young and old from both estates enjoying each other’s company; it certainly bodes well for continued good relations and improved working together.

“I’d like to thank the Housing Executive for their continued support of the two estates’ endeavours.”

The Housing Executive’s Head of Income Collection and Neighbourhoods, Jennifer Hawthorne, also commented: “Promoting good relations is an important element of the Housing Executive’s work.

“Brookfield and Edenderry estates in Banbridge have been fantastic approaching everything with an open attitude.

“I wish them well as they continue to work together and promote harmony amongst all.”
