Local man found dead in Cambodian guesthouse

A Banbridge man has been found dead in a guesthouse in Cambodia.

And another man who was taken to hospital in Phnom Penh, discharged himself and went missing, has since turned up safe and well after a social media campaign.

Police have named the deceased as 34-year-old Martin Stephen Hale, from Banbridge.

Mr Hale was 34-years-old and was born in Lisburn.

It appears from passport photos posted by the police show that his birthday was July 2 w.

The police webpage states that two “victims” had been found lying in a room in Phnom Penh’s Daun Penh district.

It gives the other man’s name as being Dean William McWilliams, aged 22.

The webpage seems to say Mr McWilliams was being treated in hospital, and that he is a cousin of Mr Hale.

Mr McWilliam’s sister Cortney McWilliams had started an online campaign to find her brother.

She stated: “I’m not one for sharing my private life on Facebook but if this helps bring my brother back I’ll try anything.

“Dean was recently visiting a friend in Cambodia. His friend sadly passed away and Dean ended up in intensive care.

“He is now missing we don’t know where he is or even if he is safe.

“Nobody has heard from him. He was last seen at Happy house guesthouse in Phnom Penh Cambodia at 4am Sunday morning (Cambodian time)If you know anybody in Cambodia please can you tag them in this post. We’re all so worried and just desperate to bring him home safe. His name is Dean McWilliams he is 22.”

However since that message on Sunday Dean is reported to have been found safe and well.

A spokeswoman for the Foreign Office said it was “providing support” to the families of the two men.
