Local groups boosting the peace process

Thousands of local people have been working to improve community relations at grassroots level, according to the Engaging in Good Relations Priority team.

The aim of the EU-funded PEACE III project, which has been ongoing for over five years is to ‘build positive relations at a local level,’ and so far bridge building activities have attracted 4,237 registrations.

“How we contribute to the peace process as individuals or groups does not have to be complicated,” commented the EGR Priority Team, based at Banbridge District Council.

“We are working very positively with a large and diverse number of youth groups, intergenerational projects and cultural institutions. Each project focuses on the benefits of the group or individual to connect them to the peace process.” Community groups, voluntary organisations, councils and statutory agencies are using a variety of creative mediums, to roll out their projects.
