Local groups benefit from summer show

Senior citizens and the local surgery were the main beneficiaries of Dromara Vintage and Classic Club’s successful summertime show.

Club chairman Mr Brian McGrillen presented cheques totalling £1,000 recently at a social event in the Peter Morgan cottage, Finnis.

He said the June event was the first organised by the Club in its new format and thanked all those who had worked so hard or contributed in any way to the wonderful success of the day.

Mr McGrillen said particular thanks were due to Dromara Football Club who generously gave of their grounds for the classic and vintage show, local farmer Mr Robert Fee who provided parking facilities, the PSNI, Lisburn City Council, Mary McCann and her team for providing refreshments, all the exhibitors, those who attended and the Club members for their hard work before and during the event.

Such was the success of the show, he said, it was now hoped to make it an annual event and plans are already underway for 2015.

Cheques for £300 were presented to each of St John’s and St Michael’s churches to help defray the costs of their Christmas dinner for senior citizens while £400 was donated to the Dromara surgery.

Local GP Dr Yvonne McGivern thanked the Club for their generous contribution and said the money would go towards the cost of providing equipment for a new consultation room at the surgery.

The St John’s cheque was presented to Jacqueline Gee and Bill Norris while Shannon McCann and Mary McCann accepted the donation on behalf of St Michael’s.
