Local bank 'treating its customers like criminals'

THE Lurgan branch of Halifax bank has been accused of treating a customer of 25 years "like a criminal".

Mark Mooney, originally from Belfast but who lives in Moira, is furious that he has lost 500 after money was put into his account at a hole-in-the-wall cash machine.

His fiance, Kelly White, deposited 600 into his account on September 13.

However, when Mr Mooney checked his on-line account the following day, he noticed that only 100 was registered as being deposited.

He said: “I rang Halifax when I noticed this. I have the receipt of the transaction, but the customer services team informed me that they do not consider this proof that the money was put into my account.

“Their attitude towards us from the start was that we were lying and trying to pull a fast one.

“I’ve been with Halifax since I was 14 and I am shocked that I am being treated like this. Companies should not make their customers feel like criminals. We have worked all our lives and my fiance is waiting on inheritance money coming in. Why would we want to steal any money?”

Mr Mooney informed the police, who are currently investigating the incident.

“I didn’t think it would go this far. You would think a big bank like Halifax would be on top of this kind of thing, but their response has been terrible.”

The bank was contacted by the ‘MAIL’ but was unable to comment on the case without the consent of the account holder.
