Lisburn Tesco receives award

Tesco colleagues at the Lisburn store have received an award at a recent black tie event for Community Event of the year, in recognition for their commitment to fundraising for the National Charity Partnership.

The first annual National Charity Partnership Charity Awards were held on 28 January at Grange Tower Bridge Hotel in London and celebrated the most outstanding fundraising achievements by Tesco colleagues in 2015.

Colleagues from the Lisburn store received their award in recognition for how the Wheels4Kris event has been able to capture the support of the community for Diabetes UK and the British Heart Foundation.

The Wheels4Kris car show was established in 2014, in memory of fellow Tesco colleague Kris Niblock, who passed away suddenly from a heart related condition aged only 20. In just two years, thanks to the generosity of the public, Wheels4Kris has raised £9,400.

Not only have colleagues at Tesco Lisburn been able to raise an impressive amount for Diabetes UK and the British Heart Foundation by establishing Wheels4Kris, but they have also managed to bring to life the causes of both charities within the local community.

Tesco colleagues have committed to raising £30 million in three years and have so far raised £7.2 million for the National Charity Partnership between Diabetes UK, the BHF and Tesco, which launched in January 2015.

The awards event saw over 200 colleagues from across the UK gather to celebrate the National Charity Partnership fundraising champions of 2015. Screen actor Pavel Douglas compered and representatives from all three partner organisations presented the awards.

The evening’s entertainment came from the band Atlas, who were also in contention for an accolade on the night after they released a music CD in early 2015 to raise funds for the Partnership. Band members consists entirely of Tesco colleagues, led by Bryan Garner Phone and Tech manager at Tesco Mansfield, Chesterfield.
