In a statement to the Times, councillor McShane said that visiting families will be safe in the knowledge that they are in ‘good hands’ while they use the beach facilities.

He continued: “Having supported the calls for lifeguards on Ballycastle’s beach, I welcome the move that sees the introduction of this wonderful service. Families will visit Ballycastle safe in the knowledge that they will be in goods hands while they use the beach facilities.

“I would take this opportunity to encourage patrons of the beach to follow the direction of the lifeguards at all times. Primary responsibility for safety remains with the individuals but following their directions will ensure the lifeguards are best placed to respond to any emergency situations.”

The councillor concluded by saying he hoped more facilities could be fought for to enhance the user experience along the North Coast.
