Laurencetown to host funding fair

BANBRIDGE District Council, in partnership with Community Network Craigavon and TADA Rural Network, is hosting a funding fair in Laurencetown Community Centre on Wednesday 2 June between 9.30am and 12.30pm.

A wide range of funding bodies will speak at the fair with a view to making local community representatives aware of the various funding opportunities that are currently available or soon will be. Group representatives will have an opportunity to speak to funders on a one-to-one basis about their potential projects.

Among those to be represented at the fair will be the Big Lottery, BBC Children In Need, Lloyds TSB Foundation, Down Rural Area Partnership, Community Foundation NI, Building Community Pharmacy Partnership, John Moores Foundation, Banbridge District Council and Sports NI.

Council Community Development Officer Robert Stockley said: “Many groups in the Banbridge District have excellent ideas for projects. We view this event as an opportunity for groups to match those ideas with funding opportunities. There is a general perception among community groups that funding is decreasing given the current economic climate. While this may be the case for some funders, others report that they are not receiving enough applications. We hope this funding fair will remedy this.”

In addition to hosting a funding fair, the Council has added a ‘Grants and Funding’ section to its website at www.banbridge.gov.uk. Community groups are advised to review the contents of this section, as it holds useful information on funding bodies, opportunities, events and support.

The Council has arranged this funding fair as part of its ongoing support to local community groups. Admission is free and refreshments will be provided. To register a place or to find out more about the event, contact the Council’s Community and Enterprise Services Department on 4066 0605.
