Launch of Louth Folk Tales book

Banbridge Library will host the book launch of Louth Folk Tales by local author and Folklorist Doreen McBride on Tuesday, September 1 at 6pm.

Louth Folk Tales is part of the Irish Folk Tales series encompassing one volume for each county published by History Press Ireland.

During the launch Doreen will tell stories from her new book recounting local tales, ancient and modern, of County Louth.

The book tells stories of the doomed love of Lassara and her harpist who haunt the waters of Carlingford Lough, of the origin of the River Boyne and of the jumping church at Kildemock.

Doreen’s tales will take you into a remarkable world filled with fantastical myths, amusing anecdotes and cautionary tales.

Doreen McBride was born in Belfast and currently lives in Banbridige.

She is a former biology teacher and is now an author and professional storyteller.

She has an interest in Ulster-Scots and has written a number of books on folklore and local dialect.

She is currently writing the volume of Fermanagh Folk Tales.

Everyone is invited to come along to this book launch and listen to Doreen’s storytelling on Tuesday 1 September at 6pm. Admission is free but booking is advisable.
