A well-known former Home Help worker has passed away.
Lena Mitchell died at Craigavon Area Hospital on Wednesday April 30.
She was the dearly loved wife of the late Ernest Mitchell formerly of Dickson Park, Seapatrick. Lena who was formerly from Lisnaward Hill came to reside in Seapatrick after her marriage to Ernie.
She was the youngest daughter of the late Robert and Mary Helena Ellison and was the last surviving member of the family. She went to Mount Ida School and after this she worked in McMurrans Egg Store.
After her marriage she came to reside in Seapatrick and was known for doing Home Help around the area and then was employed at Banbridge Academy and was employed there up until her retirement. She liked going on various trips, Church outings and dancing and socialising. But her main interest was centred around her home and daughter Hilary and son-in-law Douglas.
Ten years ago she suffered a severe stroke and needed full time care and was tenderly cared for in Seapatrick Care Home. She was a life long member of Magherally Parish Church but latterly joined Holy Trinity. Her funeral took place on May 2 from Holy Trinity Parish Church when mourners came to pay their last respects to the esteem in which Lena was held. Captain Geoffrey Walmsley paid a fitting tribute. The hymns ‘What a Friend we have in Jesus’ and ‘Abide with Me’ were sung.
Mr. Roly Anketel presided at the organ. The interment took place afterwards in the New Cemetery. Family flowers were placed on the grave and donations in lieu are being sent to William Bell and Co. Funeral Directors, 23 Kenlis Street, Banbridge, BT32 3LR for Holy Trinity Parish Church.
William Bell and Co. had charge of the funeral arrangements.
