Kirsten Brown memorial fundraiser draws near

DETAILS have emerged of a long-planned charity fundraising night in memory of four-year-old Dromore girl Kirsten Brown, who lost her brave battle against cancer in October, 2010.

Kirsten, of Hawthorn Walk, was diagnosed with ependymoma, a rare kind of brain tumour, at the age of just 18-months and for a year and a half endured a battery of surgical and drug treatment which, though initially thought to have succeeded, ultimately failed in saving the “little lady in pink” who lived every day of her tragically short life to the full.

As last year’s anniversary of Kirsten’s loss approached, her devastated parents, Lisa and Paul, who fought to the end for their “wee princess”, were taking come comfort from organising the event.

Speaking at the time of the pain she had endured over the previous year in coming to terms with her beloved daughter’s death, Lisa said she was channelling her energy into raising funds for two facilities close to the family’s heart, the Royal Victoria Hospital for Sick Children’s haematology ward and the Shimna Valley complex run by the Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children.

She said, “Kirsten really enjoyed staying at the Shimna Valley complex and we would like to be able to give something back to the people who

run this fantastic facility for children with cancer and their parents.

“The haematology ward at the hospital carries out excellent work and we felt this too would be a worthy recipient of funds raised from the evening.”

Still in the early stages at the time, ‘The Kirsten Brown Memorial Charity Night’ has now taken shape and will go ahead as originally planned on February 17 at Dromore Rugby Club.

As previously reported the event will feature a Robbie Williams tribute act; also on the bill, an Elvis tribute act.

The over-18s-only evening will get underway at 8pm and wrap up at 1am.

Admission costs £10 per person and is by ticket only.

For tickets contact Lisa or Paul on 077 6620 2084.
