Kinallen’s Angela revved up for charity challenge

revved up for a five-day

charity challege that will take her more than 800 miles by motorycycle across the island of Ireland.

Angela Whitla will pass through towns and cities on both sides of the border as she raises funds for three charities that have had an impact on her own life - namely, Aware Defeat Depression, PIPS suicide prevention and FMS/ME Awareness NI.

Angela, who turned 50 this year, has for more than 20 years battled with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, self-harming and depression.

She was also recently diagnosed with fibromyalgia.

From the moment Angela decided to this year embark on an adventurous challenge, FMS/ME Awareness NI have rallied behind her to help organise the bike run.

The support group, spearheaded by local woman Elain e Dickson, is working to raise Angela’s profile and seek sponsorship on her behalf.

Said Elaine: “Two cars with advertising will follow Angela around Ireland, supporting her as she goes along and ensuring she gets to her destinations each evening safely. “

Mayor of Lisburn, Councillor Andrew Ewing, will see Angela off on her challenge at Lagan Valley Island on Thursday (July 31) at 12.30pm.

“Angela and her entourage will travel down the route to Waterford on Day One,” said Elaine, “from Waterford via Cork on to Limerick on Day Two.

“Day Three will see them travelling via Galway and Athlone into Enniskillen, on Day Four travelling throughout Northern Ireland, stopping off at Omagh, Strabane, Derry/Londonderry, Craigavon, Belfast and other locations, to finish up in Bushmills at the end of the day.

“Angela will finish on Day Five in Limavady where the Lord Mayor, Alan Robinson, will officially end the motorbike challenge.

“So there’s a very busy schedule ahead of Angela and of course it would be great to see sponsorship and donations coming in.

“If you see Angela about don’t forget to wish her all the best and of course a wee donation would be fantastic.”
