Judge hands drink driver three year ban

A 24-year-old Banbridge man has been banned from driving for three years and fined £300 after being convicted of driving with excess alcohol in breath.

Joshua William McCann from Granville Gardens appeared before the local court last Thursday.

A PPS prosecutor explained how police were called to Woodside Park, Loughbrickland on 4 May this year after a report that a vehicle had collided with a van.

Police spoke with McCann who appeared heavily intoxicated.

He was found to be 65mgs in excess of the limit.

He admitted drinking and the fact he was driving this vehicle at the time.

His solicitor Mr Donnelly told the court that his client was disqualified in March of this year.

He said McCann had “some relationship problems over the past few months” and these “affected his common sense.”

He added, “He has been very co-operative and enters a plea at the first opportunity.

“He realises this was his own fault.”

McCann was also told to pay an offender’s levy of £15.

District Judge Mr Copeland warned him that he must not drive any motor vehicle for the next three years, given his previous record.
