Judge gives prison warning to man with a poor record

And he was warned that if he breaks any of those conditions he was going to prison.

Connor Henry, Abbey Manor, Lurgan, admitted disorderly behaviour and three assaults on police when he appeared last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court.

The court heard that on August 27 this year at 1.40am in Charles Street, Lurgan, the defendant threw a Buckfast bottle at a police patrol.

When officers spoke to him he became aggressive and kicked a constable on the foot, spat at another officer and attempted to head-butt a third officer.

Henry was highly intoxicated at the time.

District Judge, Mrs Bernie Kelly, said the defendant had an ‘exceptionally poor record’

She pointed out that since Henry had moved into the adult court this was second appearance for alcohol fuelled offences.

Mr Conor Downey, representing the defendant, said there was a trend developing in his client’s record and he realised he was in a precarious situation.

Judge Kelly pointed out that Henry had received a community service order for another offence and so far was not doing particularly well at it.

Telling the defendant that he was on the custody threshold she deferred sentencing for six months until May 19, 2017.
