Iveagh Primary is used as a case study

The Principal of Iveagh Primary School, Philip Vance has spoken of his delight that the school is to be used as a case study for ETI training, after an ‘Outstanding’ inspection report.

Mr. Vance was contacted by inspectors who told him they wanted to show inspectors what a top inspection grade looks like in practise.

Iveagh Primary School achieved the top grade in the new Inspection format which was introduced with an overall grade of ‘Outstanding.’

Mr Vance also said: “At the end of the inspection we were asked did we mind if the inspectors took samples of the P7 children’s business project, example of teachers planning notes and evaluations to show other schools.”

The report read: “The provision for learning was very good. The children’s achievements and standards was outstanding and the Leadership and Management outstanding.”

Inspectors were also complimentary about the children’s literacy and numeracy skills and the teachers’ planning for both.

“The overall quality of the children’s achievement and standards in literacy is outstanding,” the report read. “The recent whole school focus on the correct use of grammar for spoken and written English has impacted positively, resulting in the high quality of both the written and spoken language of the children.

“The children are very enthusastic about their learning in mathematics and numeracy and achieve very good standards overall.”

Both the leadership and management was described as outstanding with references made to the innovation at Iveagh and the desire to do the best for every individual.

Mrs Elaine Weir of the School Governors said, “Every member of the staff at Iveagh has worked extremely hard to achieve this excellent result from the inspectorate.

“To receive a report with no recommendations for improvement is truly outstanding and I have no doubt that staff will strive to maintain safe, happy learning experiences for all children, both now and in the future.”

Alan Brown, vice principal said: “I am delighted that the hard work shown by the pupils and staff have been reflected in this report.
