Dromore will early next year play host to an introductory beekeeping course .
The course is delivered over seven evenings in January, February and March, followed by practical sessions at the association apiary.
Participants learn about hives and equipment, the queen, workers and drones, diseases and treatments, dealing with swarms and extracting honey.
Those who joined the course last year have already enjoyed their first honey crop and are now caring for a hive over the winter. In time, the novice beekeeper learns how to produce honey for sale.
Some go further and produce beeswax candles, beeswax furniture polish, face and hand creams and lip balms.
The Dromore Beekeeping Association course will commence on 26 January. The tutor is Robert McCreery, an experienced and well qualified beekeeper.
Application forms may be obtained from Robert at Robert@mccreary71.freeserve.co.uk.
