One sheep is understood to have died as a result of the horrific attack at Port Road while four others were left injured. One sheep had an ear ripped off in the incident, which is thought to have been caused by more than one dog.

A number of other sheep in the field at the time, although uninjured, are said to have been left very scared as a result.

Local residents were alerted to the terrifying incident after hearing sounds from the animals in the field. It is believed they managed to stop the attack.

A spokesperson for Larne Borough Council confirmed that a complaint had been made regarding the Port Road incident and that an investigation is currently underway.

“Statements have been taken from the farmer and council officers are seeking statements from witnesses and the owner of the dogs,” she confirmed.
