In court on burglary and theft charges

A Ballymoney man appeared at North Antrim Magistrates Court on Monday charged with theft and burglary.

Samuel James Leighton, aged 31, whose address in court papers was given as Henry Street, Ballymoney, is charged with having entered as a trespasser retail premises on 4 Church Street, Ballymoney, namely The Gift Botique, stole items including a Sharp till containing 100 cash, jewellery, an LG mobile telephone and a charity box containing an unknown amount of cash therein.

The charity box in question related to money collected for the Robert Dunlop Memorial Sculpture Fund organised by his former mechanic, Liam Beckett.

The case was adjourned to North Antrim Magistrates Court in Coleraine on November 29 when pre-sentence reports will be presented.

The accused was remanded on bail.
