‘I’m a d---head, it’s cocaine’ man told police

A young Lisburn man was caught cutting lines of cocaine with a driving licence on a car park wall, Banbridge Magistrates Court heard last Thursday.

Tighernan O’Meallaigh (18), from Blaris Road, Lisburn, admitted unlawful possession of a class A drug, cocaine, on January 31 this year.

He was given a conditional discharge for six months.

The court heard that shortly after 11pm the defendant was seen using a driving licence to cut lines of white powder on the wall of a church car park in Banbridge.

After being cautioned by police O’Meallaigh said. “One hundred per cent. I’m a d—khead. It’s cocaine.”

A solicitor representing the defendant said his client had no history of offending and this offence was very much out of his character.

He added that the defedant was involved in the GAA coaching youngsters in football and he aalso handed in a character reference.

Deputy District Judge Liam McStay said O’Meallaigh had got himself into this situation but he was regarding it as a ‘one off’.

The judge added that it was his view the defendant had made a ‘very bad mistake’ and he believed the defendant regretted what he had done.
