Hugh hangs up the pipes after 53 years

KILREA Pipe Band has paid tribute to one of its members after he hung his pipes up after 53 years.

At their AGM members made a presentation to Hugh Duncan who played with Castlerock Pipe Band for 43 years and was a loyal and valued member of Kilrea Pipe Band for the last ten years. His presence in the band will be missed.

President, Andy Wilson, congratulated the members on their activities over the year, which marked 90 years since its first public performance. Pipe Major Rodney Wilson thanked the players for their efforts both in competitions and at local parades and concerts. He hoped that the Band would have success in the competition arena in 2014 and that the learners would progress well.

The Chairperson, Alan Dempsie, thanked the fundraising committee members for their excellent work over the year.

Thanks were also expressed to LOL 364, RBP, 586, Ballysally Community Group and Coleraine Borough Council for using the services of the band, Supervalu in Ballymoney for facilitating a bagpack, Ballymoney United Football Club, the public who supported the band and the Trustees of Kilrea Orange Hall.

The following appointments were made: President – A. Wilson, Chairperson – A. Dempsie, Vice-chairperson – J. Milligan, Pipe Major – R. Wilson, Pipe Sergeant – S. Scott, Secretary – E. Gardiner, Treasurer – M. McQuillan, Uniform Officer – L. Milligan.
