High School has bumper crop of A-level students

Demand for places on

Dromore high School’s

relatively recently introduced A-Level programme has this year outstripped supply,

according to principal, Mr John Wilkinson.

The oversubscription follows what Mr Wilkinson described as the “very good results” achived by Dromore High pupils in recent GCSE examinations. Of the GCSEs, Mr Wilkinson said: “Subject entry passes at *A-C reached 67%.

“In particular our BTec and occupational studies examination repertoire, Art and Design, English Literature, Home Economics, Additional Maths and Music performed close to 100% pass rate at *A-C.

“These results, as well as our good performers in other subjects, meant requests for entry into our Year 13 A-level programme was oversubscribed.”

Mr Wilkinson said it was gratifying that all of Dromore High’s top 55 students remained with the school to study A-levels.

“These students and others make up our new Year 13,” he said.

“The distinctive of our ‘A’ level provision is our ability to deliver a wide range of subjects - 27 - by our own staff in our own school.

“This enables our Year 13 and 14 to have an excellent all-round experience.

“With regards to the GCSE class of 2014 the governors and staff wish our pupils every success for the future as they continue their chosen educational pathway.”
