Heart charity hands over defibrillators

Portable defibrillators have been presented to a number of local groups and organisations courtesy of Craigavon Cardiac Care Association.

This is the latest batch of defibrillators to have been handed over by the charity since the beginning of 2014, and brings the total number to 37.

The groups which received them last week were Bethany Free Presbyterian Church, Edenderry Methodist Church, Armagh Road Presbyterian Church. Portadown Independent Methodist Church and Carleton St Orange Hall.

Other groups which have benefitted include sports clubs, Gaelic clubs, Orange and community halls.

The Mayor, Councillor Darryn Causby joined guest speakers and representatives from Cido at the launch of Nourish EU NI/UK Healthy Food Partnership Toolkit. This event provided an opportunity for food SMEs from the North and the South of Ireland to network with suppliers and distributors. In keeping with the theme of 2016 Year of Food, the Yellow Door provided a healthy breakfast for all those who attended. Rodney Wiggins of the CCCA said part of the proceeds from the annual draw go to fund the machines, which cost £1,000 each.

He added, “It’s our way of giving back to the community. We ask for a donation towards CCCA from any group who receives a defibrillator.

“We also provide training in their use.”

Mr Wiggins said money raised in the draw also goes towards cardiac research and equipment.
