A Southern Trust dentist, Christine Finlay has used her annual leave to help the charity Fields of Life in Uganda.
A member of the Community Dental Service team, working across Kilkeel, Rathfriland and Daisy Hill Hospital, Christine has worked for the Trust for over 30 years.
Christine didn’t hesitate when invited at very short notice to travel to Uganda with a group of volunteers. She spent two weeks providing care and preventive advice to a wide range of local people.
Christine said: “I had an amazing time in Uganda. The medical officer was absolutely thrilled with the dental equipment I brought and I had the opportunity to teach him some new skills.
“I held daily oral health classes with teenagers which was great fun under a tree and was able to leave some cash for kidney dishes and a drum for sterilizing dental instruments exclusively.”
Michele Oliver, Clinical Director of the Community Dental Service praised Christine for her generosity: “All of her colleagues greatly admire Christine for her selflessness in agreeing to change her plans at short notice to help the vulnerable people of Uganda.
“This was all done on her own expense and is very typical of Christine’s approach to life which all of her clients here in the Southern Trust know and value.”
