Health students raise cash for Mindwise

HND HEALTH and Social Care students from Southern Regional College, Banbridge, have raised £200 for Mindwise, a charity for those affected by severe mental illness and other mental health difficulties.

The students raised the cash through a sponsored walk from Scarva to Portadown last December and a cheque presentation took place recently.

Service team leader, Joice Mathew, thanked the students and their lecturer for raising awareness about mental health issues through the fundraising walk.

“Our resource centre in Banbridge offers a range of activities and person-centred support based on our ethos of promoting recovery,” he said. “As a fledgling independent charity though, now, more than ever, we are calling upon local people and businesses to help support our work by making donations to help us run existing services and develop new ones.”

He added, “I would like to take this opportunity to thank the HND students for taking time out from their busy schedule to promote and raise money for MindWise. We rely on the public’s continuous support to tackle the stigma associated with mental illness and to promote mental health awareness throughout the community.”
