Grass cutting must be inclusive says McGuigan

At the Environmental Services Committee last month, members were told that the DRD had withdrawn funding for grass cutting previously paid to legacy councils. At the meeting, members agreed to continue to cut the DRD grass but look at ways to make savings.

Raising the issue as the minutes were being discussed at Tuesday night’s full council meeting, the Sinn Fein man said: “It needs to be inclusive. Villages should have the same service as the bigger towns.

“It’s as nice driving into Dunloy with cut grass, as it is in Ballymoney, “ he said.

UUP Alderman Norman Hillis was mindful of the costs involved.

He said he didn’t want any decision being made without costings.

He proposed an amendment that Council officers should first look at the costings of cutting grass in the villages of the Borough as well as in the urban areas.

This was agreed by members.
