Grabbed woman by her throat during domestic

During a domestic incident a 24-year-old man grabbed a woman around the throat, Banbridge Magistrates Court heard last Thursday.

Roain Louis Eyres, Oak Grove, Banbridge, admitted an assault charge which happened on May 17 this year.

The court heard that police were called to a domestic incident around lunch time.

The injured party said that she and her partner, the defendant, had a verbal argument which turned physical.

She claimed that he punched her and grabbed her around the throat.

Eyres claimed ‘it was self defence’ as she had hit him first but during interview he admitted the assault.

A solicitor for the defendant said the couple had been together for ten years.

District Judge, Mr Paul Copeland, said the defendant had a number of issues which needed to be addressed and adjourned the case until July 9 so that a pre-sentence report could be prepared.

Eyres was remanded until then on his own bail of £500.
