Governors say ‘get involved’

A school governor at Lisneal College has backed a Western Education and Library Board (WELB) drive to encourage people to serve on school boards.

David Ramsey, who has served at the school for four years, said: “If you have specific skills in the deployment of finance or human resources or in child welfare and special educational needs, these are very valuable.

“However, training will be available to all governors through a new Regional Governors’ Support and Training Service so you will have the opportunity to develop the skills and experience required.”

Tony Brennan, a graphic and web designer, has served as a governor at St Joseph’s Boys School for the last year.

He said: “The role includes addressing issues using the mix of all board members’ expertise, skills and backgrounds, ensuring accountability in all aspects of the running of the school.”
