Gilford residents’ group continues good work

At the first meeting following the summer recess, the work of the group throughout the summer was highlighted.

This included the successful clean up organised and carried out by committee member Graham Sergeant and his brother Stuart. They organised and carried out litter picks and general tidy up of the village and surrounding area, complimenting the work carried out by Barry Campbell - Gilford’s excellent town centre warden.

The committee would like to thank Banbridge District Council for the floral displays that enhanced the village.

GCRG is delighted to see that work has commenced on the new play park on Castle Hill and public walkway at the Gilford Community Centre. Overall these enhancements will provide much needed recreational facilities for residents.

Over the past month residents have raised a number of concerns. The group discussed all the issues that have been flagged and agreed a course of action in terms of engaging with the appropriate authorities to ensure appropriate action is taken. In relation to the Whinney Hill traffic concern, one of the committee put forward an innovative potential solution to the problem which will be put to the Roads Services Department via Sydney Anderson MLA who will be briefed accordingly.

The committee agreed that the next public meeting will be held in late October, the date yet to be finalised. It was agreed that amongst invited guests will be PSNI to enable them to hear directly from residents. In the meantime the good work on behalf of Gilford residents will continue and as always the group welcome feedback from residents.
