Gilford funding extension rejected

DISAPPOINTMENT has been expressed at the recent news that an application for funding for the community worker under the Areas at Risk programme in Gilford has been rejected.

A request to extend the current programme beyond August this year was turned down by the Social Development Minister, and the council’s Head of Community Services said the news was “extremely disappointing”.

Community Development Worker Sarah McNeil had worked with young people in the area and was praised for “the excellent work condicted in such a short timeframe”.

The news was said to be more disappointing given the fact the new Community Centre has just opened in the village.
