His speech to members focussed principally on the upcoming local elections and his role as a Party Officer, with special reference to his involvement in the Haass talks.

Following the meeting Alexander Redpath commented: “I’ve had an absolutely tremendous evening addressing what is probably the strongest Ulster Unionist branch in Lagan Valley.

“Garvaghy Skeagh has made a massive contribution both to the party and their wider community by leading the way with our new Dromore office.

“This office is funded entirely by the Ulster Unionist Party and our local members. Garvaghy Skeagh contributes not only funds but their time by manning this office for the benefit of local people. We are the only political party running an office in Lagan Valley out of our own funds. Every other office in Lagan Valley is funded by the tax payer.

“It is a real testament to the commitment of our local members that they are prepared to incur this significant expense both in time and money to serve the community they live in,” he concluded.
