NORTHERN Irish native Gareth Dunlop is set to release his new EP; Devil Mocks Me and has also announced details of an exclusive headline performance at Belfast’s Black Box on Thursday April 19; tickets are on-sale now from Ticketmaster outlets nationwide.
In 2011 Dunlop flew his band to Nashville to record with six-time Grammy winning producer Brent Maher. The result, recorded over one week in the studio, was the; Devil Mocks Me EP.
“I’m amazed at the talent that continues to come out of Northern Ireland and Gareth is absolutely as good as it gets,” said Maher. “He’s a soulful singer and great songwriter with his own distinct style. To top it off, Gareth plays guitar as well as he sings...and that’s saying something.”
In addition to recording with his own band, Gareth recorded the track Fool’s Desire with some of the finest musicians in the U.S. Award winning drummer, Nir Z, who has played with superstars ranging from John Mayer to Genesis said, “Playing with Gareth reminded me why I started playing music to begin with!”
Reflecting on the whole studio experience Gareth said: “I was looking around the studio and pinching myself at the caliber of people involved.” Brent Maher added: “Gareth is one of those rare artists who capture a great vocal while playing and singing with the band. In my career as a record producer working with Tina Turner set the bar for me as to how an artist should drive a rhythm section while delivering a brilliant performance. Gareth has that same passion and power to create a moment in a song you will always remember.”
Gareth Dunlop’s songs have also been featured in numerous hit American television series including Cougar Town, One Tree Hill, Private Practice, Life Unexpected, Missing and many others.
Over the last year, Gareth has been opening shows for a wide range of artists including The Stereophonics, Angus & Julia Stone, Ryan Sheridan, The Steeldrivers and most recently performed “In The Round” with the legendary John Oates & Iain Archer at this year’s Belfast Nashville Songwriters Festival.
