Fundraisers put the mount in Mountvale

STAFF and supporters of a Dromore nursing home put the mount in Mountvale recently when they took to the slopes of Slieve Donard in a cash-building charity climb.

The Mountvale Private Nursing Home fundraisers added a splash or two of colour to Northern Ireland’s highest peak when they stepped out in costume as everything from bumble-bees to ladybirds, fairies to king-size babies, with a scattering of Superwomen into the bargain.

“Everyone completed the five- hour, 11-mile climb and we were happy to see the weather stayed on our side,” said, home administrator Michelle Pritchard.

“Special thanks go to our tour guide, Pete (Phil) Batey, who led us up the mountain and kept us entertained on our way.”

Having last year concentrated their efforts on raising cash for the Alzheimer’s Society, the staff at Mountvale, their friends and supporters this year chose to champion another “wonderful” cause.

“This year we opted for a more unknown charity,” said Michelle, “relating to a condition which only a few of our residents have - PSP (Progressive Supranuclear Palsy).”

With money continuing to come in, Mountvale’s charity total is climbing towards the £1,000 mark.

Said Michelle,“We are still receiving donations and to date we have approximately £800 collected.

“All donations are still very much welcome for this wonderful charity.”
