Fundraisers planned by local mother and daughter

A local mother and daughter have a number of fun-filled fundraising activites planned throughout June - all in aid of Action Cancer, WRITES SHAUNA ROGAN.

Karen and Teri McShaw have pledged to raise nearly £6,000 for Action Cancer as they are running the 26.2 mile New York marathon in November.

Their aim is to raise substantial funds for Action Cancer so that it can continue to help the people of Northern Ireland with lifesaving services.

They have planned a variety of local fundraisers which they hope will be attended by many local people in the community as there is something for everyone.

The activities include an ‘It’s A Knockout!’ competition at Tullylish GAC club on Friday June 15, a ‘Thornton’s World Breaking Chocolate Eating Challenge’ for anyone who loves chocolate at the Belmont Hotel on Saturday June 16 11am, and on Friday June 22 Karen and Teri have organised a Karma Yoga night at Banbridge Leisure Centre.

From 6.30pm there will be a yoga session for beginners and from 7.45pm a session for general participants both taken by Sayon Cheung Mulligan.

Admission is free but all donations will be greatly appreciated.

Action Cancer relies heavily on donations from the public and business communities in Northern Ireland.

These donations provide a range of vital, life-saving services including a breast screening service for women aged 40-49 and 70+, men’s MOT health check, health promotion, research, counselling and complementary therapies.

Every year they need to raise £3.2 million to keep their services going.
