Funding package announced for arts for older people

Three groups working with older people in Londonderry are among 16 organisations celebrating arts project investment worth over £95,000, to promote health and well-being, courtesy of the Arts Council of Northern Ireland.

They are Derry City and Strabane District Council’s Art for the Third Age - Music to your Ears project, The Void Art Centre and Waterside Theatre Company Ltd, for the Telling Tales Visual Art Project.

The grants are the final instalment of a three-year programme of investment through the Arts and Older People’s Programme, which aims to tackling loneliness and isolation and promote positive mental health and well-being.

The VOID Engage Programme, is dedicated to creating connections with older people and the arts and will deliver a 12-week mixed media visual arts project to five groups of older people working with local artist facilitators.

Waterside Theatre Company will work with 24 older men, in a neighbourhood renewal area of the Waterside, to deliver visual arts printing workshops and produce 24 pieces to be publicly exhibited in Cascade Gallery at the Waterside Theatre, while the Council will deliver ‘Arts For The Third Age – Music to Your Ears’, a six-month project designed to engage 70 participants in music and crafts.
