From Wisconsin to Cookstown

A WISCONSIN woman has been visiting Coagh this week in an attempt to trace her ancestry.

Cheryl Lamont-Boehmke’s grandparents, the Lamont and Bell family, emigrated from Coagh in the late 1800s.

Cheryl and her family were joined by Cookstown man and distant relative, William Lamont and together they visited Ballygoney Presbyterian church where they were given a tour by Bruce Johnston who shared a brief history of the church and adjoining cemetery.

The group was also joined by local historian Maurice Clements who spoke briefly on Presbyterian emigration to the USA.
