Fitness instructor on sex charge is '˜tagged'

Aaron John Wright (38), formerly of Railway Road but now with an address at Captain Street Lower in the town, is charged with intentionally touching the woman, ‘the circumstances being that the touching was sexual, that she did not consent to the touching and you did not reasonably believe that she so consented’.

He is also charged with common assault against her and has a third charge of causing unnecessary suffering to a dog on the same date, December 27 last year.

Coleraine Magistrates Court was told he had been brought to Ballymena Court on Saturday June 11 for a breach of bail and was remanded in custody.

Wright was then due to appear Coleraine Court via video link from Maghaberry Prison on Monday June 13 but when his case was called he was not immediately present in the video link room and the case proceeded in his absence.

A prosecutor said a new bail condition has now been added - an electronic tag.

No details of what the breach was were given to the court however a defence lawyer said an issue of rent arrears at Railway Road meant locks were changed and that was part of the reason for the breach.

The lawyer said there should be no issue with the tag for his client and said a new address at Captain Street Lower has been found.

Wright was released from prison on his own bail of £350 with conditions that he does not attempt to see, speak or contact the woman he is accused of assaulting.

He is also banned from entering Ballymoney and banned from consuming alcohol and shall not possess or consume any illegal drugs or legal highs and is not to abuse prescription drugs.

He also has a night time curfew from 11pm to 5am and during those hours is subjected to electronic monitoring.

Elizabeth White (20), of Ramsey Park, Macosquin, rampaged through her father’s home on June 2, Coleraine Magistrates Court was told. A prosecutor said police received a report the defendant was wrecking her father’s house and the kitchen was “completely thrashed”.

She broke crockery and damaged other items including a bookcase and a TV. Aerosols were found in the house and White had been sniffing lighter gas.

Her dad told police the defendant had complained there was not enough food in the house and threw eggs at him before starting to wreck the property.

White has pleaded guilty to criminal damage.

Meanwhile, on May 10 police received a report that White was fighting after making a comment about a mobile phone and she then threw a bicycle onto the ground. She grabbed a woman’s hair and pulled her into a garden.

White, who appeared at Coleraine Court via video link from Hydebank Prison on Monday June 13, pleaded guilty to common assault, disorderly behaviour and criminal damage.

A charge of possessing an offensive weapon - a stick - was withdrawn. Her case has been adjourned until the end of June for sentencing.
