Fined for speeding on carriageway
A 37-year-old man was fined £60 last Thursday at Banbridge Magistrates Court for speeding on the A1 dual carriageway.
Christopher Paul Keenan, Canal Street, Newry, was also given three points and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy. The court heard he was detected travelling at 73mph in 60mph area on the A1 near Banbridge on July 6 last year.
He failed to take up a fixed penalty which was available or attend a speed awareness scheme.
A solicitor representing the defendant said he was offered the fixed penalty and could not take up the course because he did not have the funds to pay for it.
