Fiery Academy winners set for London final

YOUNG entrepreneurs from 'Fibrix', Banbridge Academy's winning company, are to represent Northern Ireland at the HSBC Young Enterprise Innovation Awards in London next month.

The company’s innovative idea was to produce environmentally-friendly fire bricks as an alternative to fossil fuels. At a gala event in Belfast City Hall in May, the company was announced as the Northern Ireland regional winner of the Young Enterprise Company Programme, whereby young people set up and run their own business over the course of the school year.

“Fibrix” are continuing the tradition of enterprise excellence at Banbridge Academy, whose company ‘Clash’ won the Young Enterprise Northern Ireland Company of the Year in 2009.

Recently Ciaran Cunningham of the Banbridge Enterprise Centre held a reception for “Fibrix” and members of Young Enterprise. This was attended by Banbridge Enterprise Centre Directors and members of the local business community, to wish them well for the next stage of the competition and to allow the young entrepreneurs to practice the presentation that they will deliver in London.

Cathy Morrison, Senior Development Manager at Young Enterprise Northern Ireland said, “The Southern region of Young Enterprise is delighted that, for the second consecutive year, Banbridge Academy’s company will be representing Northern Ireland at this prestigious awards event. ‘Fibrix’ have worked extremely hard throughout the year in the development of an innovative business idea.

“We are also very pleased with the level of support that the local business community have shown to the next generation of entrepreneurs in the area.

“All of us wish ‘Fibrix’ the very best of luck for the next stage of the Young Enterprise Company Programme competition.”
