Councillor Mark Baxter has condemned the DRD’s failure to fix potholes in the area.

He said: “We are all well aware of the economic pressures all statutory agencies are facing the minute but in my role as an elected representative I’m becoming increasingly frustrated by DRD.

“Not only have we four foot high grass verges causing serious problems at junctions, I’ve now been informed that potholes with a depth less than four inches are not being repaired in urban areas.”

He added: “I was contacted by a number of residents about a particular pothole at the entrance to Baird avenue right on the junction which is causing problems for motorists. I reported it in the usual way only to be given this bizarre information. I measured it myself and unfortunately its only three inches deep.

“I have to say that the staff at Road service locally are always very helpful and efficient when contacted by myself but it seems their hands are tied by this ludicrous directive from Mr. Kennedy.”

He concluded: “Given that his department has overspent by £12 million it begs many questions as to how the department is managed.”
