‘F*** the pope, the IRA and Muslims’

Michaela Mitchell (46), Chinauley Park, Banbridge, appeared in the dock last Thursday at the local magistrates’ court.

She admitted charges of disorderly behaviour and assaulting a constable at Castlewellan Road, Banbridge, on June 19 this year.

The court heard that at 9.55pm a taxi driver stopped at the gates of Banbridge police station, saying he was having problems with a passenger

Mitchell, who was heavily intoxicated, was in the front seat and refusing to get out telling police to ‘f—k off, f—k off you b—ds’.

She was warned about her behaviour but continued to shout and use foul language.

The defendant had to be physically removed from the taxi by restraining her arms and again shouted ‘f—k off you b—ds’ at police.

She was arrested and cautioned and said: “F—k the Pope, the IRA and Muslims.”

Mitchell also lashed out and kicked a constable on the knee. When cautioned for this offence she said: “F—k off.”

District Judge Rosalie Prytherch adjourned sentencing in the case until December 3 so that a pre-sentence report could be obtained.
