European Tour for Men’s Fellowship

Mr. Clarke, a former minister of Balteagh Presbyterian Church, Limavady, treated his audience to an illustrated European travelogue, delivered with his customary enthusiasm and interspersed with many gems from his fund of humorous stories and recollections.

As usual, however, his talk did not lack a serious message and he conveyed to members, through a series of photographic slides, a vivid portrayal of the work in Moldova of Mission Without Borders. This is a Christian organisation dedicated to serving the spiritual, emotional and material needs of those suffering poverty or oppression.

The work is based in Eastern Europe, specifically Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Moldova, Romania and the Ukraine, and people are served without regard to their religious or ethnic background, but with everything offered in the love and name of Christ.

Mr. Clarke’s slides had been taken in schools, orphanages, churches and farms supported by the Mission during visits he had made with other members of the Mission.

He concluded his talk by showing slides of the Island of Lewis and of battlefields and military cemeteries throughout Europe.

Thanks to the speaker for an enthralling morning was extended by the Fellowship president, Dr, Michael Gardiner, who said that the membership was particularly grateful to Mr. Clarke in view of the fact that he had agreed, very much at the last minute, to address the meeting. Mr. Mal Macready of Translink, who had to postpone his visit to Ballywillan, will be speaking on March 7.

The speaker at this week’s meeting (on Thursday 14 February) will be Dr. Derek Turbitt who will be giving one of his popular talks on gardening. New members will be most welcome. The meeting starts at 10.30am with tea/coffee and chat in the Link at Ballywillan Presbyterian Church, Portrush.
