And the Council has issued a warning to dog owners that they must clean up after their dog at all times or potentially receive a £50 fine under the Litter NI Order 1994.

Speaking on behalf of Council, Head of the Enforcement Team, Catherine McNally said “Coleraine Borough Council is doing all it can to tackle this issue and we have been stepping up our efforts to encourage people to do the right thing and clear up after their pets.

“Dog wardens have served 19 fixed penalty notices from January 2014 to April 2014 to those who have failed to clean up after their dog.”

Council Dog Warden Timmy McHugh also added, “We are receiving more calls than usual regarding dog fouling in the Borough. Anyone caught not picking up after their pet is likely to receive a fixed penalty notice of £50.

“Council has placed bins throughout the town centre, local parks and beaches so there is no excuse for those who allow their dogs to foul up their communities.”
