DUP will protect pensioners says Mid Ulster candidate
“During this campaign and especially when out and about on the doorsteps around Mid Ulster, concerns have been expressed by many older people that they may lose some of the support that they have been given as a result of the efficiency savings driven by Stormont,” said Mr Buchanan.
“The DUP has always been a strong advocate for the rights of our older population and it was our party that was in the forefront of the efforts to introduce tougher sentences for those who would assault older people in their homes.

“I and my party assure pensioners throughout Mid Ulster that they will be protected under the DUP. It was our party that introduced free public transport for people over 60 and that will stay.
“The DUP recognizes this has been a lifeline for many older people especially those in rural areas and that it has made a real positive impact upon the lives of tens of thousands of pensioners.”
He added: “Furthermore, we are committed to the retention of the Lone Pensioners Allowance. We recognize this is a valuable and much-needed support for many older people in Northern Ireland.”
