DUP welcomesplanning office

The DUP representative who serves on Derry City Council and was recently elected to the new ‘supercouncil’ said: “The transfer of the planning function from DOE to council will bring significant opportunities to local government and will allow elected members to have decision making responsibilities.”

Mr Middleton said the office will open in the centre of Londonderry next week.

“The dedicated office which will open next week at Orchard House Londonderry will enable members of the public to access the available planning services locally.

“With the planning function transferring in several weeks time, it’s essential that the transition period is seamless and that those who will be working in the service can do so efficiently allowing them to be more responsive to the needs of the local community. The Orchard House office will be dedicated to serve the Londonderry and Strabane area from February 9.”

Planning is one of a number of functions that are being devolved to local Councils from April 1. Councillors will have control over local development plan functions and development control and enforcement (planning).
