Drumbeg WI's busy session

Drumbeg WI members have enjoyed an interesting session recently.

A sponsored walk was held in Sir Thomas and Lady Dixon Park in April to support the work of the Associated Country Women of the World, which helps women and their families in under developed countries. Later in the month there was a day trip through the Sperrins and Glenshane Pass.

Other outings have been to ‘the Inspector Calls’ in the Opera House and to the Island Centre to hear Lisburn Harmony Ladies Choir.

The area AGM took place in May when local author Tony Macaulay was the guest speaker, and the reading from his memoirs ‘All Growed Up’ caused much merriment.

Presentations were made to Barbara Huss who won the ‘Hillhall Salver’ for a Cook’s Apron, with Molly Craig taking second place.

President Rosalind was presented with the ‘Mona Cummings Cup’ for her essay entitled ‘A Year in our Institute’ and Eva Orr’s coffee cake was second in the Irene Walker Competition.

Doris Campbell, Rosemary Reid and Ann Simpson won the Area Quiz and received the Ann McCurdy Plaque.

Five members joined with ladies from other Institutes to serve food at Balmoral Show and a game of hurling provided fun at the May meeting.

Craft and Walking groups continue to meet weekly.
