Drugs seized in Operation Torus

More than £330,000 of drugs have been seized over a three-week period by police in E District as part of Operation Torus, a street level drug dealing initiative.

During the operation, which ran from February 25 until March 16, 108 house searches and 95 arrests were made in E District, which includes Banbridge.

Detective Chief Inspector Stephen Wright, E District crime manager, said: “Operation Torus has allowed us to remove a substantial quantity of drugs from circulation and we will continue to target those involved in the sale and supply of illegal drugs.

“We conducted more than 90 searches during the operation which demonstrates how insidious the problem of drugs is. We will continue to work with communities and partner agencies to educate our young people.

“We would ask for the support of the public and encourage anyone with concerns or information to contact us.”

Suspected drugs found during searches have included cannabis, cocaine, mephedrone and prescription drugs.

To speak to police ring the non-emergency number 101 or Crimestoppers.”
