Drugs removed from the streets

In 2013/14 they made 119 seizures - 15 more than the previous year. They increased incidents of drugs possession from 75 to 104 through proactive searches and action.

Chief Inspector Ian Campbell, said that they were doing their utmost to continue to remove drugs from the streets.

“I am aware that drug use and supply is a concern for many in the local area and I can reassure you that we are doing our utmost to remove drugs from our streets,” said Mr Campbell.

“Our success in increasing seizures and detecting drugs possession has only been possible through our work with partner agencies and, most importantly, because of information from the local community.”

The recent statistics also revealed that the police cleared more crimes during the financial year.

Crime outcomes have risen from 529 to 585. There has also been a substantial decrease in burglary offences which have dropped by more than 23 per cent, compared to the previous financial year.

Mr Campbell, said: “An increase in the number of crimes cleared is always welcome however, we have also seen an increase in recorded crime in the Banbridge area - a rise of 9.4 per cent.

“This is disappointing for us but will act as impetus for the year ahead. We will continue to build relationships within our local communities so that we can address the issues that matter to you and act on the information you bring to us.

“I am asking for the continued support of local residents through the next year as we work to lower crime in your area and create a safer community for everyone.”
