Drugs recovered from iconic Limavady location

A PSNI spokesperson said: “District Crime Team arrested two men in the area of O’Cahan’s Rock at the Roe Valley Country Park in Limavady on Wednesday (February 19) and seized herbal cannabis with an estimated street value of £1200.

“Both men have been released on bail pending further enquiries. This operation follows the recovery of speed and herbal cannabis in the same area back in January.

“This is a popular spot for walkers and police are keen to hear from anyone who sees suspicious activity in the area. The town of Limavady derives its name from the legendary leap across the river Roe said to have taken place from what is now known as the O’Cahan’s rock. The O’Cahans were the dominant clan of Limavady and the Roe Valley until the 17th Century. The ‘leap of the dog’ across the Roe warned the O’Cahan chieftains of an incoming ambush.

The location is now marked with a sculpture of an Irish wolfhound by Maurice Harron, the artist responsible for the hands across the divide statues at the end of the Craigavon Bridge in Londonderry.
