Brandon Squires (21), Brookfield Meadows, , was fined £300 last Thursday at the local court for unlawful possession of cannabis on October 24 last year.

Police seized a roll up cigarette containing cannabis and a small grinder at the premises. Squires admitted they belonged to him.

A solicitor representing the defendant said his client was having a 21st birthday party with some friends when the police arrived. He added that Squires co-operated fully with police.

The lawyer said that his client had two previous convictions for similar offences when he had been using the drug for pain relief from headaches.

He added that he now used normal methods of pain relief and on this occasion it was for recreational use.
